Appointments

Here at The Derry Court Medical Practice the surgery works on a triage telephone system. This way no patient is turned away. Dr Okoi also provides Skype appointments.

The surgery operates an appointment system and we endeavour, whenever possible, to give an appointment with the doctor with whom the patient is registered or regularly consults.

Nurse appointments may be booked up to TWO weeks ahead.
Routine appointments are for 20 minutes and it is not normally possible to cover more than one or, at the most, two items per appointment.

How it works: On the day you wish to see a doctor please call the surgery and book a call back from the doctor (8am -11am triage calls). Reception will confirm your identity and telephone number. If you request an urgent call back then you may be asked to provide a brief description of your condition. You may note to reception an approximate time as we understand how important this is to patients who are at work for example. You will then receive a call back from the GP. The GP will then assist over the telephone or agree with you a time for a face to face appointment when they speak to you. The aim is to increase access to doctors by patients. This system has been used in a number of healthcare services and appears to improve continuity of care and service. If you want to make an appointment with a Doctor ahead of your planned day off, you can arrange this with the Doctor over the phone.

The practice follows the protocol of "One problem - One appointment."
The maximum number of ailments you can see a GP for on the same day is two. Should you require this please inform the member of staff booking your triage appointment in order to assist the GP with the correct amount of time.

Children under 16 should usually be accompanied by an adult. However for emergencies or where a child wants to speak to a Doctor in confidence, we are always available.

*Anyone can request a chaperone during their appointment or bring a trusted related or friend to their appointment. If you require a chaperone during your consultation please inform reception when booking your triage appointment.

Test Results

Please call the surgery 1 week after we ask you to do any tests for the results. In most cases, the receptionist would be able to give you the results over the phone.

Hospital Appointments

When you are attending a hospital appointment, please write down what you want the hospital doctors to do for you. If you are prescribed any medicines during your visit to the hospital, please ensure you collect them before leaving as the GP is not able to re-write hospital prescriptions. Please ask the hospital doctors to explain your condition and treatments to you, it is their responsibility.

Medical Certificate

If you require a medical certificate, please ask the hospital doctor who is treating you to give you the certificate. It is their responsibility and it also saves important GP appointment times.

APPOINTMENT UPDATES TEXTS WERE SENT ON 30th June 2021

We are writing to let you know that from July 2021 we will not call back again if you miss your telephone call from the clinicians. This is because the number of missed calls are getting too many, putting a strain on our ability to manage the increased demands.

Please call between 8am - 11am.

We are therefore asking that when you make a telephone call, you give us a 2 hours window during which we will call you back. We need 2 hours window because many other people may want the same period. Of course, you can always call back the following day or seek other help.

If booking online and you are requesting a two hour time frame please ensure you free text type this as appointment times are only slots.

Thank you.
The Derry Court Medical Practice.

Video Consultation

We have started video consultation.
If you would like to be consulted via video, please inform reception when booking the telephone appointment or note it on your online telephone appointment.
The Doctor will send a link to your preferred mobile number by SMS.
We will request that you enable your audio and video facilities on your smart phone.
Once you click the link, it will take you to the video consultation.
It is convenient. Once the consultation has concluded, the link will not function till the next video consultation link is sent when needed.

Thank you

Home Visits

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed.

Patients are asked to telephone before 10.30am if a visit is required that day.

Emergency visits only will be arranged after that time. Please give the receptionist as much information as possible to enable the doctor to allocate priority to home visits.

Please attend the surgery if at all possible.

You can be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
