Appointments

**Here at The Derry Court Medical Practice the surgery works on a triage telephone system.

The surgery operates an appointment system and we endeavour, whenever possible, to give an appointment with the doctor with whom the patient is registered or regularly consults. When booking appointment, you can request a particular clinician and we will do our best to accommodate your preference. However, sometimes, this might lead to your appointment being delayed, if the clinician you want is not available.

Nurse appointments may be booked up to TWO weeks ahead.
Routine nurse appointments are for 20 minutes and it is not normally possible to cover more than one or, at the most, two items per appointment.

How it works: On the day you wish to speak with a doctor please book an appointment online. It is important to ensure that we have your current telephone number at all times. We may not accept a number you provide on the day of your appointment for privacy reasons. If you request an urgent call back then you may be asked to provide a brief description of your condition. You may indicate an approximate time you will like to be called as we understand how important this is to people who are at work for example. The GP who calls will assist over the telephone or agree with you a time for a face to face appointment when they speak to you. The aim is to increase access to doctors by patients. If you want to make an appointment with a Doctor ahead of your planned day off, you can arrange this with the Doctor over the phone.

The practice follows the protocol of "One problem - One appointment."
The maximum number of ailments you can see a GP for on the same day is two.

Children under 16 should usually be accompanied by an adult. However for emergencies or where a child wants to speak to a Doctor in confidence, we are always available.

*Anyone can request a chaperone during their appointment or bring a trusted relative or friend to their appointment. Please make sure you do not mind that individual knowing details of your medical conditions or other facts that may come out during the consultation. If you require a chaperone during your consultation please inform reception when you arrive for your appointment.

Test Results

You can view your results on the NHS app. Please note that some results may be out of range but that may not be relevant to your condition. Results being out of range do not necessarily indicate anything to be concerned about. The most important thing on the result is the plan added to the results by the clinician. However, even if your results are normal but you still feel ill, please contact us. But if everyone calls about any little thing they find out of range with their results, there may not be many appointments left for people who are ill.

Hospital Appointments

When you are attending a hospital appointment, please write down what you want the hospital doctors to do for you. If you are prescribed any medicines during your visit to the hospital, please ensure you collect them before leaving as the GP is not able to re-write hospital prescriptions. Please ask the hospital doctors to explain your condition and treatments to you, it is their responsibility.

Medical Certificate

If you require a medical certificate, please ask the hospital doctor who is treating you to give you the certificate. It is their responsibility and it also saves important GP appointment times.

APPOINTMENT UPDATES TEXTS WERE SENT ON 30th June 2021

We are writing to let you know that from July 2021 we will not call back again if you miss your telephone call from the clinicians. This is because the number of missed calls are getting too many, putting a strain on our ability to manage the increased demands.

Please note that the time you book for triage is an indicative time. It does not mean that is when we will call you.

Preferably book your appointment online using the NHS app.

If you want a call back around a particular time, we ask that when you book your appointment you indicate a 2 hours window during which we can call you back. We need 2 hours window because many other people may want the same period. Of course, you can always call back the following day or seek other help.

If booking online and you are requesting a two hour time frame please ensure you free text type this as appointment times are only slots.

Thank you.
The Derry Court Medical Practice.

Video Consultation

We provide video consultation.
If you will like to have a video consultation, please indicate this when you are booking your appointment.
You will be sent a link to your preferred mobile number by SMS for the video call.
We will request that you enable the audio and video facilities on your smart phone.
Once you click the link, it will take you to the video consultation. Video consultations are convenient for some people. Once the consultation has concluded, the link will not function till the next video consultation link is sent when needed.

Thank you

Home Visits

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed.

Patients are asked to telephone before 10.30am if a visit is required that day.

Please give the receptionist as much information as possible to enable the doctor to allocate priority to home visits.

Please attend the surgery if at all possible.

You can be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP.

Online Service

We encourage everyone who has a smartphone and internet access on their phone to register on the NHS app. Follow the instructions and get reception to link the NHS app to your medical record. You can then use the NHS app to book appointments online, request your repeat prescriptions online and view your medical records including your test results. Most of our appointments are released online at 7am on the day.

Please note that immunisation clinics will be run on Mondays mornings and Wednesdays afternoons.
All appointment can be made by calling or coming to the reception.

Thank You
